For this week, further down the page, you will find 1/2 0f this week’s newsletter (for 24\10\2026) the other half will be made available tomorrow (25/10/2026). Hopefully, next week we will be back to normal)

Parish Newsletter - List of those who are sick

In a recent newsletter, there was a notice about the sick list which is put on the newsletter most weeks. In case you have not read the notice, it is being shown here.

In order to comply with current legislation regarding the importance of the privacy of individuals we have to ask parishioners to observe the following guidelines which have been sent to us by the Archdiocese: If your name or the name of a friend or relative of yours is on the parish list of prayers for those who are sick, and you would like that name to remain on the list, would you please contact the parish office by email or letter. We need to make sure that you or your friend or family member has consented to their name being on that list.

This is because the list can be seen by a lot of people, as it is printed on the newsletter and is available for anyone to pick up in church and is also published on the internet through the parish website. In a couple of weeks’ time, the list will be restarted with the names of all for whom the parish have consent. This is necessary to make sure the church takes proper care of your information and complies with current data protection law.

If you want to put the name of a sick person on the sick list, there are forms in the sacristies for people to sign. The list will be restarted with the names of all for whom the parish have consent. This is necessary to make sure the church takes proper care of your information and complies with current data protection law.

Parish Weekly Newsletter 25th OCTOber 2026

THIS WEEK ONLY i AM SHOWING YOU one half of the newsletter

Parishes of St Paul & St Timothy 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time 25th October

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus is asked which is the greatest commandment. His answer is wonderfully simple: love God with all your heart, soul and mind, and love your neighbour as yourself. These two commandments, Jesus tells us, are the foundation of everything.

Alongside my responsibility as a Parish Priest, I also serve as the National Advisor to the Catholic Bishops of England and Wales for the Middle East, especially the Holy Land. This role takes me regularly to the region, working with Church leaders and supporting Christian communities. I also work closely with politicians, Church and secular organisations, both here in Britain and internationally, raising awareness of the challenges facing the people of the Holy Land and encouraging practical support for those who suffer.Another important part of this work is hosting official visitors from the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem on behalf of the Bishops, ensuring their voices are heard. This week, I am spending four days in London hosting Fr Bashar Fawadleh, the Parish Priest of Taybeh, the last remaining entirely Christian village in Palestine. Taybeh has featured prominently in the news recently because of attacks by extremist Israeli settlers, threats to Christian-owned land, its churches and growing fears for its future. I have arranged meetings with parliamentarians, including our own MP and Church leaders so that Fr Bashar can share his community’s experiences. And this brings us back to Sunday’s Gospel. Our neighbour is not necessarily someone who lives next door to us. Our neighbours are also our brothers and sisters whom we may never meet, people living thousands of miles away, like our fellow Christians in Taybeh. Their suffering matters to us because they belong to the same human family and share our faith. We may never visit Taybeh or meet its people, but through our prayers, concern and solidarity, we can show them that they are neither forgotten nor alone.Fr Mark’signature is added . New page is coming up I have not put table lines in to save me time!!

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN BECOMING A DEACON? INFO EVENING - TUESDAY 24 NOVEMBER 7.00 PM: The deacon embodies the spirit of service and compassion in the Church, a man who is dedicated and humble, uniquely ordained to help both the spiritual needs and the practical needs of a community. Candidates for the diaconate are typically mature men between the ages of 30 and 65. If they are married, they must be in a stable sacramental marriage. The journey to discern if you have a calling to the diaconate involves asking yourself whether you have a genuine desire to serve God and His Church in this capacity. We invite you to attend our enquirers’ event at St Oswald and St Edmund Arrowsmith Canon’s Hall, Liverpool Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield, to learn more about the role of deacons, their ministry in parish life, and to support your prayerful discernment.
