The Jubilee Logo
Father Simon Gore explains: “The logo shows a group of people travelling together, reminding young people that they’re never alone on their journey of faith and will always have support in their faith communities.
There's also the symbol of the wave, a reminder of the potential difficulties of being a follower of Christ in the modern age. But most importantly, there's the anchor – the anchor of hope – to show that no matter the difficulty, we can always find hope and comfort in our faith.”
An ordinary jubilee happens in the church every 25 years – the last one was in the year 2000. Occasionally, there can also be Extraordinary Jubilees called, for example, we had one in 2015, that ran until 2016, called the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. Jubilee years date back to the 1300s, and traditionally, it is a year that sees the remission of sins, debts and universal pardon. This page has various links and you can choose which ones you want to read or follow.
Pope Francis wrote a letter . On that page there are further links, for example, a Jubilee Hymn called ‘Pilgrims of Hope’
The website for the Archdiocese of Liverpool has a page listing various events during the year . Most of these will be mentioned on the Parish newsletter. The Archdiocese page also has a message from CAFOD and mentions a focus on Human Trafficking for the whole of the Jubilee year and there is a list of places of worship in the archdiocese. These have been called Pilgrimage Churches.
If you want more information about the Archdiocese events, then there is a bulletin every two weeks from the Pastoral Development. If you want this bulletin, please click this LINK. Fill in the form and tick the square for PD Bulletin.
Soon, the parish will be invited to various events in the Archdiocese but perhaps some groups in the parish will suggest other events such as going to one of the Pilgrimage Churches or following the Pilgrim Way round all the Pilgrimage Churches. The Parish Council may have ideas about involving all of us so there will be further additions to this page hopefully. And of course, individuals and families can choose their own path to become Pilgrims of Hope.
